World Cup 2018
Antepost Tips
World Cup Winner
An ultra competitive tournament with a number of sides more than capable of going all the way. After breaking it down from the group stages right through until the semi final we’ve got it down to the following….
Brazil v Argentina (Semi Final 1)
Germany v England or Belgium (Semi Final 2)
Germany will make the final if they face England or Belgium in the semi in our view, but over in the first game it could be a cracker if Brazil v Argentina meet. Brazil have all the makings of a World Cup winning side for us this year, they are solid right the way through. Neymar looks as though he’ll be fit enough to start and he could well and truly guide Brazil to a 6th World Cup.
Back Brazil to win the World Cup at 4/1
Back a Brazil vs Germany final at 12/1
Top Goalscorer
Recent history shows you that the top goalscorers in the World Cup will come from a nation who tend to have done well, make sense really doesn’t it?
2014
James Rodriguez – 6 goals / Colombia / Quarter Final
Thomas Muller – 5 goals / Germany / Winners
Lionel Messi – 4 goals / Argentina / Final
Neymar – 4 goals / Brazil / Semi Final
2010
David Villa – 5 goals / Spain / Winners
Diego Forlan – 5 goals / Uruguay / Semi Final
Thomas Muller – 5 goals / Germany / Semi Final
Wesley Sneijder – 5 goals / Netherlands / Final
2006
Miroslav Klose – 5 goals / Germany / Semi Final
2002
Ronaldo – 8 goals / Brazil / Winners
Miroslav Klose – 5 goals / Germany / Final
Rivaldo – 5 goals / Brazil / Winners
With our prediction of a Brazil, Germany & Argentina advancing to the semi finals, we will be concentrating on their attackers.
Looking at the groups, I can see Brazil & Argentina scoring quite a few goals, if that is the case you’ve got to be expecting Messi, Neymar & Jesus to be scoring. Messi scored a hat-trick in Argentina’s last friendly, and will be hoping to better his tally of 4 goals at the last World Cup. Neymar has just returned from a broken foot, but has managed to net in both WC warm up games and looks set to start in their opener v Switzerland. Gabriel Jesus also looks set to lead the line, he scored 7 goals in 10 appearances for his country during their WC qualifying campaign.
At 16/1 & with Bet365 paying out the top 4 scorers each Jesus is definitely worth an EW bet for the tournament. He’s been given the number 9 shirt and looks set to start in a front 3 alongside Neymar & Coutinho. Neymar however will be their main man, he will take the majority of set pieces, including penalties and could run away with it if he’s fully fit.
Neymar World Cup Top Scorer 9/1
Gabriel Jesus World Cup Top Scorer 16/1 Each Way
Top Team Goalscorers
Belgium - Romelu Lukaku – 7/4
Belgium scored a whopping 43 goals in the 10 qualifying games en route to the World Cup. Lukaku started in 7 of them and helped himself to 11 goals. If he’s fit then he will start and if the games are close then there’s little chance he’ll be coming off. The only downside of backing Lukaku is that Eden Hazard will be taking Belgium’s penalties if they get any.
Brazil – Neymar – 5/4
Neymar has been sidelined with a foot injury since February but came off the substitutes bench to score against Croatia in a 2-0 victory at Anfield. Brazil’s tournament begins on the 17th June against Switzerland and we think he’ll be itching to start that game and fire his country off to the perfect start. If Neymar was fully fit we’d expect him to be much shorter than 5/4 to be his countries highest scorer, We feel there’s a bit of value in this bet after his 30 minute cameo against Croatia.
England – Harry Kane – EVS
Harry Kane is England’s main man, he finished England’s top scorer in qualifying having only started 6 out of the 10 games. If he’s fit then he’ll start. He takes England’s penalties and if the game is close Gareth Southgate will be looking for Harry Kane to fire England to victory.
Back Lukaku, Neymar and Kane in a £5 trixie – £20 in total.
